Lenticular Filtration Housings

The lenticular filter module (also commonly referred to as “cartridge”) format was invented by Alsop Engineering in the 1940s. Today, ErtelAlsop continuously improves upon this innovation. With its totally enclosed design, it is the perfect alternative to the plate and frame filter press. Since Pak lenticular Filter modules (cartridges) are comprised of the same filter media used in plate and frame filtration, existing process specifications can easily be translated from plate and frame to lenticular filter cartridge format. This provides a totally enclosed, operator friendly depth filtration system. The Pak lenticular cartridge design also allows for quick change out times, so down time is minimal as compared to other means of filtration.

Filter Housings are available in vertical or horizontal mountings, and for industrial use or fine filtration. Our Filter Housings are 12″ or 16″ in diameter, and include designs for flat gasket or double-O-ring cartridges.

In applications throughout the pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmeticfood & beverage and electric utility industries, ErtelAlsop can provide the best Pak lenticular filter housings to suit your needs.

For industrial applications, we offer a top loading design, in which filter housings can be loaded and reloaded with lenticular module Paks by a single operator. The sanitary design, is equipped with a domed cylinder, which is easily removed and can be offered in sections to eliminate the need for an overhead hoist.

Where Are Lenticular Filters Utilized?

DEWAXING
ErtelAlsop Dewaxing Filter Press offers an efficient option for lipids removal and polishing dissolved Oleoresin. All liquid contact components are FDA Compliant and are capable of filtering solvents at -40°F. Filter press operation requires very little operator intervention during processing and offers quick and easy cake removal between cycles. Pressure filtration offers fast filtration and efficient solid-liquid separation for maximum product recovery.
PHARMACEUTICAL FILTRATION

The filtration of pharmaceutical and biological fluids requires a complete understanding of the pharmaceutical filtration process, including both filter media and filter equipment. ErtelAlsop is the only US based manufacturer of a complete line of Pharmaceutical Filters, ranging from sanitary laboratory equipment to sanitary production equipment. We manufacture pharmaceutical grade filter paper , Micro-Cap™ Disposable Laboratory Capsules,    MicroCap Pro™ Single Use Capsules and double O-ring depth filter cartridges.

Our cellulose based depth filter media provides a highly effective solution for clarifying or polishing pharmaceutical products such as syrups, Large Volume Parenterals (LVPs), Small Volume Parenterals (SVPs), Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), as well as biological products such as blood plasma, blood fractions, animal sera, fermentation broths, cell culture media and veterinary products. Depth filters are also widely used as a pre-filter to final membrane filters. They are highly effective in minimizing the particulate challenge placed on the membrane, thereby providing ideal operating conditions to allow the membrane to realize its full potential.

ErtelAlsop offers the widest variety of Pharmaceutical Filters and filter media available including 100% cellulose filter pads, cellulose/diatomaceous earth, cellulose/perlite, and cellulose/diatomaceous earth/activated carbon. Our pharmaceutical grade media is manufactured to the stringent controls of our Drug Master File located at CDER and is supported by The Validation Guide for ErtelAlsop Pharmaceutical Grade Depth Filters.

MASH FILTRATION

A mash filter is a filter used in place of a traditional lauter tun to separate sweet wort from grain solids.

The mash is pumped into the plates of the press, quickly separating the wort from the grain, allowing the wort to move on to the next step in the brewing process within minutes.  Sparge water is pumped through the plates containing the collected grains.  The filter plates are then separated, and the dry cake is easily removed into a cart for disposal.  The whole process is fast and efficient compared to using a lauter tun which takes considerably longer.

The ErtelAlsop Mash Filter provides a large surface area, high pressure filtration system for efficient solids dewatering and liquird recovery.  ErtelAlsop Mash Filters are easy to operate, have few moving parts, and utilize re-usable cloth filter media.  Mash filters require minimal utility requirements and very little maintenance.

Sanitary Pharmaceutical Housings

The Sanitary Pharmaceutical filter housing helps ensure the integrity of your pharmaceutical or biotech application by providing a highly polished filter housing with sanitary fittings, vent connection and no internal threads. This model is provided in 316L stainless steel as standard and allows for easy cleaning after complete disassembly.

The typical housing can hold up to four 12-inch or 16-inch diameter Pak lenticular filter module cartridges in a vertical configuration. For additional integrity assurance, ErtelAlsop Bio-Pak Double O-Ring cartridges should be used within this housing.

The Bio-Pak® is designed with no stainless steel parts. The center core is made of polypropylene and instead of flat gasket end caps, Double O-Ring plug-in style connectors are provided. This superior model provides the following advantages over the stainless steel strapped, flat gasket design:

  • Positive sealing between Pak cartridges and between the cartridge and the housing.
  • Center core provides a rigid structure, eliminating the need for a center post.
  • No center post means less labor- no need for lifting cartridges over a center post.
  • Fewer material components reduce compatibility issues.

Horizontal Housings

The ErtelAlsop Horizontal filter housing provides all the benefits of traditional vertical filter housings with several added bonuses.

The horizontal orientation allows for single person operation, and eliminates the need for overhead hoists.

The unique ErtelAlsop “Lock and Load” System allows easy loading and unloading of Pak lenticular filter module cartridges with the assistance of Teflon guides. The housing can be provided as a single unit or as a dual, tri or quad system on a baseplate, complete with common piping. In addition, the horizontal design can be provided in various materials of construction and to ASME code.

The enclosed design and horizontal orientation make this unit cost effective for most applications. It provides minimal product loss along with reduced labor requirements.

ErtelAlsop’s Horizontal Pak filter housing is the perfect technology to replace old leaky plate and frame filters in liquid processes. All ErtelAlsop lenticular Pak filter cartridges are suitable for use in the horizontal housing.
