The Patented New BioClean™ Filter Plate Assembly

Designed to meet the rigid cleaning validation standards of the biotech arena, the BioClean™ filter plate lends itself to all sanitary and ultra-clean depth filter applications. It is an integral element in the ideal upstream filtration sequence that leads to successful down stream processing, up to and including, sterile filtration of the finished product.

The BioClean™ filter plate assembly is unique in a field of filtration apparatus where innovation in design is rare. With the stringent needs for ultra-cleanability and assurance of sterilization, innovation was exactly what was needed. The BioClean™ filter plate assembly overcomes the shortcomings of existing plate and frame filter presses where commonly available designs incorporate a variety of grooves, nooks, crannies and crevices within which contaminants may become trapped and unreachable by normal cleaning techniques. Also, the ability to effectively steam sterilize these plate and frame assemblies could become compromised.

The BioClean™ filter plate assembly overcomes these shortcomings. It consists of a frame and two screen sections which are easily engaged for use and just as easily disengaged for thorough cleaning and sterilizing. All surfaces are accessible and free from surface defects and formations which can harbor contaminants and interfere with sterilization.

The unique BioClean™ design also incorporates a series of protrusions, or dimples, on opposing screens which physically contact each other when the filter press is closed. This effectively maintains the physical position of the plates without the need for welding or additional mechanical interconnections and prevents the plates from bowing inwardly while under pressure during filtration.

Materials of construction are 316L stainless steel and surfaces have a 180 grit finish and are Electro-polished.

The sizes of plates currently available include 8 in. x 8 in., 16 in. x 16 in. and 24 in. x 24 in. Other sizes can be made available if needed.

The new ErtelAlsop BioClean™ filter plate assembly sets new standards for plate and frame filter presses used in the manufacture of biotechnology drugs.

ErtelAlsop products include pharmaceutical Micro-Media® depth filter media made to strict controls and  included in a Drug Master File at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the FDA. Precision die cut media is available for plate and frame and cylindrical filter presses and Zeta-Pak®  lenticular filter cartridges. ErtelAlsop also manufactures sanitary design hardware for incorporation of these media.
