ErtelAlsop's dewatering filter presses are among the most efficient means of liquid-solid separation through pressure filtration, either for solution filtration or sludge volume reduction. They provide a simple reliable method of high compaction pressure to compress and dewater solids into filter cakes of 25-60% total concentration. This provides clearer filtrate solutions than other filter press systems that only remove free water.
The EA Series Line of heavy duty recessed chamber filter presses, and our membrane squeeze filter presses, are available in 100 PSI or 225 PSI design rating, and for solids handling ranging from 1 ft³, all the way to 350 ft³.
Thirty-two (32mm) millimeter gasketed polypropylene filter plates are standard on all models, making these heavy-duty filter presses well suited for applications, which require leak-free processing. Other standard features include a chemically resistant painted steel skeleton, 304 stainless steel bar wear strips, schedule 80 PVC head connections, four corner discharge, hydraulic closure system, and a full 6 year framework warranty.

Applications
ErtelAlsop's filter press systems can be utilized in many applications and markets. In dewatering applications the slurry is pumped into the chambers of the filter press, which is known as a slow fill. The filtrate passes through the filter cloth and the solids are retained between the recessed chamber plates. As additional solids are pumped into the chamber, solids continue to collect until the entire chamber is full, in turn, raising the differential pressure. This process of dewatering the solids is what forms our 32mm filter cake. At this point the press is opened and the filter cake drops. The filter press is then cleaned, if needed, and the process repeated.
The filter press can also produces a recoverable solid such as dyestuff, or precious metals as in the Merrill-Crow Process, or may be used with the intent of reducing waste volume. In hazardous material applications, reducing the volume of waste is critical. A liquid slurry of hazardous metal hydroxide waste may be reduced from 40 drums of 1% solids to one drum of 40% solids. Such an improvement may economically justify the filter press in less than one month.
Typical filter press applications include:
- Process Filtration and Plate Washing
- Sludge Dewatering
- Pharmaceuticals and Biological Filtration
- Chemicals Filtration
- Clarification of Processed Fluids
- Municipal Sludge
- Waste Stream Remediation
- Precious Metal Recovery
- Environmental Remediation
- Desalinization Filtration
- Biodiesel Dry Wash Separation
- Ethanol Filtration
- Ore Sludge Processing
As with all ErtelAlsop presses, filter media is available for any application and/or operating condition, and is chosen based on your specific operating conditions, the performance required by the filtering media, and criteria given to us by you and/or by sample processing we do in our lab. ErtelAlsop offers the widest varieties of filter media and construction techniques to provide good particle retention, clear filtrate, high flow rates, and dry filter cakes.
